STREET C.R.E.D
streetC.R.E.D.™ (Casualty Reduction Education Day) is West Yorkshire Casualty Reduction Partnership's education programme for young people who are all learner drivers, novice drivers, or soon-to-be drivers™ on the theme of staying safe and secure when out on the roads.
Designed with the help of education professionals, the streetC.R.E.D.™ presentation is at the heart of a number of optional spin-off activities that tie in with curriculum and "Asdan" achievements.
The whole provides an experience of genuine and lasting benefit to pupils.
Objectives of streetC.R.E.D.™:
- To help educate an audience of new and future drivers about how to stay safe and secure on the roads™ and about respecting themselves, their passengers and other road users by respecting speed limits
- To present streetC.R.E.D.™ in a way that's inter-active and FUN, so that it is more memorable and meaningful to the audience
- To provide opportunities for pupils to actively engage in and help "shape" the presentation and programme (before, during and after)
- To provide opportunities for pupils to gain academic "qualifications or accreditations" through streetC.R.E.D.™
Pupils participate in the planning and preparation of the event, so they share ownership and responsibility.
streetC.R.E.D.™ from West Yorkshire Casualty Reduction Partnership:
- A "light touch", not lecturing or hectoring
- Interactive sessions e.g. "do you know your speed limits" quiz paper
- FUN!
- Duration about ¾ hr with Q&A session at end
Other parts of the programme that schools and colleges have "tapped in to" include:
- Design a poster, leaflet, advertisement or similar that "captures" the message of respecting the speed limits
- Entries are made the subject of an exhibition
- Winning entries may be incorporated into West Yorkshire Casualty Reduction Partnership's forthcoming advertising campaigns
